USB wifi problem TL-WDN3200 N600

Post by Vindaloo4000 »

Hows it going, i bought this new card, which i later found out is not linux plug and play, and being brand spanking new to linux, this is a major pain in the arse :mrgreen: ive been looking for the driver for a couple of days now and from what i can gather, there doesnt seem to be a driver that will work with this mint.

This is the card:
wlan1 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr e8:de:27:a4:b5:4e
inet6 addr: fe80::eade:27ff:fea4:b54e/64 Scope:Link
UP BROADCAST RUNNING MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1
RX packets:25554 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0
TX packets:5904 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0
collisions:0 txqueuelen:1000
RX bytes:4109902 (4.1 MB) TX bytes:1453441 (1.4 MB)

Now the driver.
When i unpack and and make the file, i get an error at the end.

make[2]: *** [/home/me/programs/usbnetwork/DPO_RT5572_LinuxSTA_2.6.0.1_20120629/os/linux/../../os/linux/rt_linux.o] Error 1
make[1]: *** [_module_/home/me/programs/usbnetwork/DPO_RT5572_LinuxSTA_2.6.0.1_20120629/os/linux] Error 2
make[1]: Leaving directory `/usr/src/linux-headers-3.16.0-38-generic'
make: *** [LINUX] Error 2

Being new to linux i thought id continue with the install. I get this error

install: cannot stat ‘rt5572sta.ko’: No such file or directory
make[1]: *** [install] Error 1
make[1]: Leaving directory `/home/me/programs/usbnetwork/DPO_RT5572_LinuxSTA_2.6.0.1_20120629/os/linux'
make: *** [install] Error 2

Any help would be beastly!!!

Please generate an overview of your system like this:
- launch a terminal window and make it full screen, to avoid chopped lines;
- copy/paste this command into the terminal:

Code: Select all

inxi -Fxz
(if you type: the letter F is a capital letter)

Press Enter.

Copy/paste the output in your next message.

Do the same with this command:

Code: Select all

So what is not working with the wifi? The ifconfig results look good.

Your internal wifi card should work with

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get install bcmwl-kernel-source

Found the issue, i think the download has a few drivers. What was installing was the incorrect driver for me.

This blog shows how to fix it.It changes the code to the usb adapter your using, whoo hoo!! :D

3. Go to that directory and edit this file: os/linux/rt_linux.c. Replace lines 1206 and 1207 like this:

old lines:

pOSFSInfo->fsuid = current_fsuid();
pOSFSInfo->fsgid = current_fsgid();

new lines:

pOSFSInfo->fsuid = __kuid_val(current_fsuid());
pOSFSInfo->fsgid = __kgid_val(current_fsgid());
