Code: Select all
sudo apt-get install bcmwl-kernel-source
I'm running Windows 7 on the computer I am posting this on right now. I am SUPER new to Linux so I don't have much of an idea how to solve this.
Code: Select all
sudo apt-get install bcmwl-kernel-source
I downloaded the exact version and everything went and ran the installation. It installed without any errors. I then rebooted the computer. Unfortunately after it rebooted I still could not connect to the internet. I went to the driver manager and it said one proprietary driver in use. I looked down and saw that the driver I installed was in use. Which was the 6.30.223.248+bdcom-0ubuntu0.1: amd64 i386 . Now that it's installed, I have no internet still... This is very strange. Have any ideas?JeremyB wrote:You might want to look at https://help.ubuntu.com/community/WifiD ... net_access as bcmwl-kernel-source is on the install media you used

lo Interface doesn't support scanning.
Yeah, I am really trying to fix this but if all else fails... I was looking for a good wireless adapter that Mint would support. Thank you very much.Spearmint2 wrote:If after all you try it still fails, get one of these for an easy solution.
Panda 300 MBS
or for more distance.
Etek wifi and antenna.
I've personally tested both of them and they work perfectly with Mint just by plugging in.

I installed it, but it doesn't work. bcmwl-kernel-source is selected in driver manager but I still have no internet...JeremyB wrote:Ok you said you downloaded and installed the i386 version, you need to get the amd64 version since you have a 64 bit kernel and the bcma module is loaded and that doesn't happen after bcmwl-kernel-source is installed
You can get the 64 bit version of the bcmwl-kernel-source http://packages.ubuntu.com/utopic/amd64 ... e/download

Not very likely.Would there be any difference if I were to switch to a different version of Linux Mint?
