[solved][WINE] Linux Mint- Mobile Internet Broadband

Post by AstralWolf »

Hi guys, I have recently installed Linux Mint out of sheer curiosity. I'm from Malaysia and a total noob when it comes to Linux.

Ok, my main problem is that the main internet I use comes from my mom's broadband. That being a Huawei E3131 U-Mobile Broadband. There are is a Setup.EXE file to install the device and a AUTORUN.EXE to start it. Now, I've installed the latest version of WINE through the software manager. I've attached a few images below to help.
WINE works smoothly in installing the thing, bringing up the installer. However, once at 80% of the installation process, I get an error saying : "AddPBK.EXE has encountered a serious error"(not the exact wording). I then get an error file which I've attached below. After that, the installation completes succesfully and Im able to open the U-Mobile menu.(attached) Problem is, the menu says the device is disconnected and I am unable to connect to the internet.

I know I should post this on the WINE forums; but I'm hoping you guys here can help me.
I am currently using Wi-Fi to post this.
here is the error message:

Code: Select all

Unhandled exception: page fault on write access to 0x00000105 in 32-bit code (0x7bc49576).

Re: [WINE] Linux Mint- Mobile Internet Broadband

Post by Pierre »

first off:
you don't need to run that M$ EXE program, under wine or whatever. ..
:)
- you should be able to simply place that usb stick into a usb slot, as you would do normally.
it should then get detected as a 3g modem & the Linux O/S should offer to run that 3g stick.

right click the network icon, - edit connections - Mobile Broadband - add new connection.
- if it doesn't automatically do that bit.

but - my Huawei E3131 3g-Mobile Broadband works fine, after manually - adding via that way.
:D

Hi theree and thanks,

When I plug it in and go to files, it appears as HUAWEI SD STORAGE. When I unplug and plug it again, it appears a HUAWEI Mass Storage. When I click on SD storage, nothing happens. When I click on mass storage, ut says unable to mount file.
When I do it a 3rd time, it appears in devices wiith an icon saying "U Mobile" directly under ny hard druve.

During the third try, I followed your instructions and found mobile broadband and turned it on. Then I clicked settings and configured it- HOLY SHIT, it works!

Thank you thank you thank you thank you :D kind sir.
