Ultrbook: Mint 17.1 Wifi stops working when closing lid

Post by carlom64 »

I have a Spectre Ultrabook with dual boot Mint 17.1 / Windows 8.1 connected to an external monitor with screen mirroring in both OSes
Wifi works flawlessly in Windows 8.1 with both lid open or closed
In Mint 17.1 Wifi only works when lid is open
As soon as I close the lid, in a matter of about 5 seconds, wifi stops working.
If I open the lid again, WiFi starts again.
I checked it with a ping to the router: under Mint 17.1, ping goes on endlessly as long as the ultrabook lid is open.
If I close the lid, I get another 3 or 4 pings then it stops completely (I can see it on the mirrored monitor).
When I open the lid again, the ping starts again.
This behavior does not happen in Windows 8.1, so it's an OS related problem.
The model is an HP Spectre Ultrabook UEFI.
This versyon of linux has been installed by a linux SE. I installed the same version on an external SSD disk and experience the same problem, so it's not related to the person or device. Unless it's related to the SSD.
Plese note that all other PC functions work normally - e.g. LibreOffice of file browsing. Only WiFi stops.

Here are some system info:
