WifiRadar detects wireless networks

Post by stargazer76 »

However, when I Select the network I want to connect to and then click on Connect - it sits there 'Acquiring IP address (DHCP).

By the way...2 weeks ago I was at home and had been connected to my home wireless without issue. Then I went on a trip. I had problems connecting to the Hotel wireless. The same thing - i saw the wifi in the box, selected it, and it just sat there indefinately Acquiring IP address. Now that I am back home, I had hoped that it would be an easy task to reconnect to the network that I had been using for the last 2 months, but seems that again it is having this issue.

Please help. I am not sure what other type of info i could provide to be useful.

Please generate an overview of your system like this:
- launch a terminal window and make it fullscreen, to avoid chopped lines;
- copy/paste this command into the terminal:

Code: Select all

inxi -Fxz
(if you type: the letter F is a capital letter)

Press Enter.

Copy/paste the output in your next message.

OK, try this:

- First of all, create some extra free space on your system partition. It's already too full; a Linux system partition should have a minimal 20-25 % free space, for optimal performance.

- Then try the easy generic solutions: install the latest kernel from the 3.13 series:
https://sites.google.com/site/easylinux ... el-updates
(item 3, right column)

Then reboot.

When no improvement: install the latest kernel from the 3.16 series. Then reboot.

Does that help?

Clean up a bit: delete superfluous files (downloaded movies that you've already watched?) and empty the trash bin afterwards. :)

OK... I overlooked that you're using Mint 13; so installing a newer kernel is different than in 17.x. :)

Temporarily enable level 4 and 5 updates in Update Manager, and *only* install the latest kernel from it. Then disable level 4 and 5 again and reboot. Does that help?

When I OPEN the Update Manager, it runs and then returns this error. Does this mean anything?

Yes, the Medibuntu repo has disappeared. That's why you get these errors.

You can simply ignore these errors, or, even better, remove Medibuntu from your Software Sources list.

There's one error (the first) which relates to Google; perhaps you have installed Google Chrome?

Yes, I do have Chrome...ok?

I also removed the medibuntu, which eliminated the errors...Yay!

However, regarding--> Temporarily enable level 4 and 5 updates in Update Manager, and *only* install the latest kernel from it. Then disable level 4 and 5 again and reboot. Does that help?

When I did the Update Manager thing the first time, it apparently updatged everything. Now there are no levels at all in the window.

The system is running much faster now, but still no connection with WifiRadar - just continually Acquiring IP Address.

Any other suggestions short of throwing this laptop off of a Bridge? :lol:

Install all of them... On second thoughts, that's maybe the best thing to do anyway.

Reboot afterwards.

Does that help?

Does it help when you optimize your wireless network like this, in the router:

- SSID visible;
- WPA2;
- AES only (no TKIP)
