WiFi disabled after updating linux mint 17.1 XFCE

Post by ilAli »

some days ago i downloaded and installed Linux mint 17.1 xfce. at the first is introduced a huge amount of updates with about 300 MB in size. i updated the system and after restarting it, i recognized that WiFi is disabled.
when i click on network icon in taskbar, it does not show any WiFi network or any option relating to Wifi. it seems network manager completely lost its Wireless features.
before updating the system, there was not such a problem. in fact, i update my system using Wireless.
How can i solve the problem?
thx.

Dorud! (only Farsi word I know....) :)

Please generate an overview of your system like this:
- launch a terminal window and make it fullscreen, to avoid chopped lines;
- copy/paste this command into the terminal:

Code: Select all

inxi -Fxz
(if you type: the letter F is a capital letter)

Press Enter.

Copy/paste the output in your next message.

After months of using Linux Mint 17, then on to 17.1 with no problems, I now have the very same issue.
Yesterday, after having been connected to wifi overnight, I booted up my system and noticed no wifi connection. I started searching forums, but quickly became frustrated. I rebooted a few more times, then miraculously the option to connect to wifi appeared, and didn't drop at all. This morning back to no connection.

I can see the connection to wifi ax listed 10 hours before, configuration is fine, but no connection.

I have a feeling it has to do with an update a day or so ago

Sorry for delay, i didn't access to my laptop for about two weeks.
I ran that command and it showed me some hardware information. I will send the screenshot soon.
I start mint in recovery mode and it solved the problem but i faced with a new one, now it does not recogniz display resolurion correctly.

If I boot from the USB stick that I used for the installation for a live session, the WiFi is working perfectly as my installation did until 6 days ago when I did recommended update.
The hardware switch works during the live session but not if I boot my installed system.

Grateful for any help
many thanks
michael z.

I forgot to add -and it might be important- that when I run DriverManager, I get an absolutely empty window.
Nothing, not even something about my eth0 connection.
I only get the message "No proprietary drivers are in use" outside the window to the left of the revert button.

@mnzs99: actually, my advice was to the original poster, namely ilAli....

Could you please start your own thread? "Thread hijacking" causes confusion.... :)

@ilAli: no screenshot is necessary, you can simply copy/paste the terminal output as plain text into a forum message. That's easier to read.

I am very sorry Piotr.
As for starting own thread, two things:
1) I don't know (yet) how to do it as this is my very first posting and
2) I honestly thought that I should NOT start an own thread when there was a thread going on exactly the same topic.
Please accept my apologies.

That's OK.... :)

For starting your own topic, you can click on the Wireless section - click the button "newtopic".

If you post your information in your new topic, I'll try to help you there. :)

Dear Piotr,
In fact, you have already helped me :-)
How?
Simple: I saw that next to your name there was a small button pointing at your web site: https://sites.google.com/site/easylinuxtipsproject/
There, you have written "10 things to do first in Linux Mint 17.1 Xfce".
Among many great things, you have also written: https://sites.google.com/site/easylinux ... te-Manager
and among other things, you explain how to "install kernel updates".
Well, I did exactly what you wrote and .....magic.
With the latest 3.13 kernel (0.49), everything is again perfect.
MANY THANKS mate for great advise.
:-)
