Dual band wireless router

I have a dual band NetComm Model NB16DG router. It outputs at 2.4 and 5 GHz. Linuxmint only sees 2.4 GHz. My wifes apple air sees both 2.4 and 5Ghz as well as my android phone and tablet. Why is linuxmint not seeing the 5GHz output when the signal strength is strong.

It is a Qualcomm Atheros QCA9565 / AR9565 Wireless Network Adapter (rev 01). But having trouble to determine if it supports 5Ghz.

Yeah, most likely your wireless card doesn't support 5gHz.

A listing of the supported features on Qualcomm (QCAxxxx) wireless cards is at https://wikidevi.com/wiki/Qualcomm_Atheros.

It indicates the QCA9565 has support for 802.11bgn wifi standards. No support for 802.11a or 802.11ac, usually means no 5GHZ (those two wifi standards require 5GHz support, in 802.11n 5GHz is optional). A device shown as abg, abgn or abgn+ac has 5GHz, a device shown as bg or bgn hasn't. These are hardware limitations not imposed by Linux drivers.
