Wireless driver not Working SOLVED

Post by Mashimaro7 »

Okay, I just bought this wireless adapter, Linksys n300 AE1200, I heard it works on Linux if you use the xp driver, so after much searching I tried the command

Code: Select all

sudo ndiswrapper -i bcmwlhigh5.inf
and it said successfully installed, but it still can't connect to wi-fi. In the driver folder there's a file called AE1200xp.sys, so I'm assuming it's the right driver. If the adapter is really incompatible, I can return it, but my options are kinda limited...
I'm a noob, so please, in layman's terms. I don't really understand how most codes work, though I want to learn.

Thanks in advance.

Hello Mashimaro7 and welcome to Mint,

That card is problematic at best, some have gotten it to work, but why use a windows driver when there are other cards that will use Linux drivers out of the box.

here is a list of compatible usb wifi adaptors known to work with Ubuntu/Mint.
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/WifiD ... sSupported

my advice return that one and pick one from the list. Good luck.

Thanks, I returned it and got a D-Link DWA-160. It seems to be supported, but it says before I use to install some firmware and the carl9170 driver. I'm not entirely sure how to do these things, also I have no internet for Linux, so could somebody give me instructions or something. It says to install packages, but again, I only have internet on my Windows drive. Here's the links I found,

Edit: Okay, I started up Linux to see if I could get the internet working and it's already good to go without installing a driver. I'm using Linux right now! lol, well if I should install the driver to make it run better or something, I don't know, let me know. Otherwise, problem solved! Thanks.

If it's up and running I would install no other drivers. (if it isn't broke don't fix it ) :)
Glad you got it working - Enjoy :)
