For Ubuntu 10.10 I downloaded the drivers and installed them (lpr and cupswrapper file)
And I used: URI: lpd://192.168.1.109/binary_p1 (that was the IP address of the printer at that time)
And that's all I had to do really, it went up right away and printed wireless without me doing anything really.
That's why I just don't understand it doesn't work now, not with Ubuntu 14.10 or Mint 17.1.

Have you tried entering or using something like Jetdirect Socket URI to connect to the printer at all instead at this point? With my MFC-295CN which is actually wired although the URI set at

<--Using JetDirect not LPR.
