My usb network adapter will not work [SOLVED]

Post by tbrownarcher2 »

The Lenovo @ the bottom of this post with a WNA3100 Netgear adapter

I have gone through these commands . i was on the internet with a linksys adapter that works .. it's very old and for some reason it works.

Code: Select all

nate@nate ~ $ dmesg | grep ndis
[ 836.395711] ndiswrapper: module verification failed: signature and/or required key missing - tainting kernel
[ 836.396762] ndiswrapper version 1.59 loaded (smp=yes, preempt=no)
[ 836.435753] usbcore: registered new interface driver ndiswrapper
nate@nate ~ $ iwconfig
wlan0 IEEE 802.11bgn ESSID:off/any
          Mode:Managed Access Point: Not-Associated Tx-Power=20 dBm
          Retry long limit:7 RTS thr=2347 B Fragment thr:off
          Power Management:off

lo no wireless extensions.

eth0 no wireless extensions.

Code: Select all

nate@nate ~ $ sudo iwlist wlan0 scan
wlan0 No scan results

so what else do i need to do and did i do it right so far ?

I'm a bit desperate too. My Linksys WUSB54GC Is quite a few years old and gets hot and slows down to a crawl sometimes so I need something to work and I think the onboard network adapter in this toshiba lap top is broke cause it does not even work on the windows side of this computer

Thanks,
Nate

Shows the commands after downloading the driver from the link in post #4
Mine still didn't work very well, choose the 64 or 32 bit driver depending on whether your LM install is 64 or 32 bit

I did this up to the link ......

http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php? ... st13010118

this is what i got . I'm doing something wrong in my addressing but i can't figure it out . it looks good to me but it says it's not there .... spelling maybe but i cant find it
One thing I did not say is that I'm actually using a fairly new install of LM 17.1 cinnamon

nate@nate ~ $ sudo ndiswrapper -i ~/Downloads/Broadcom_bcm43xx_USB_32_64bit_v2/bcm43xx32.inf
couldn't open /home/nate/Downloads/Broadcom_bcm43xx_USB_32_64bit_v2/bcm43xx32.inf: No such file or directory at /usr/sbin/ndiswrapper-1.9 line 162.
nate@nate ~ $

thanks,
Nate

oh i C . This is not the file name i'm wanting it's a tar.gz file ... how do i unpack that thing so i can find the file i need ?

Double click on the file and anchive manager should open it, then just decide where you want it extracted to

Not knowing that much about what i'm looking at I think though it should work ..... driver installed --- device present ....

it fired up but would not work when i clicked the network icon it said connecting then it stopped
it works well with windows so i know it works . i gave it the password to the modem/router but it does not complete the connection. What do i do now ?

thanks,
Nate

If there is a file named bcmn43xx64.inf, use that instead

Jeremy:
The 32 bit works but not for long.
when i plug it in it works 15 seconds or 5 min maybe not 5 but several minutes. It works faster than anything I have ever had the web pages just blink up but then the connection is soon lost . If i unplug the dongle from the usb port and plug if back in it works great for a bit then the connection is lost . Any ideas on what is the problem or should I start a new thread?

thanks,
Nate

Code: Select all

 sudo apt-get install ndisgtk
then look through the program menu, administration, windows wlan drivers. Then if possible uninstall the current 32 bit driver and use the program to install bcmn43XX64.inf but even then the performance I saw wasn't the greatest and I thought the results from my WUSB54GSC was better

Jeremy:

I understand this to be a 64 bit version of the driver .... My system is 32 bit. Will this work on my system ?
for some reason my adapter has stayed connected for almost an hour now but it's %connection is very low at the moment .
install bcmn43XX64

Thanks,
Nate
