WIFI drops out about every 5 - 10 minutes

Post by Fred60 »

Back again :( My wifi keeps dropping. I have to restart to get it back up, but after a few minutes it drops. I tried the commands you suggested here: viewtopic.php?f=53&t=182555 and got the following result:

fdred60@Linux1 ~ $ for p in /sys/module/rtl8192se/parameters/*; do echo $p; cat $p; done
/sys/module/rtl8192se/parameters/*
cat: /sys/module/rtl8192se/parameters/*: No such file or directory
fdred60@Linux1 ~ $

Any ideas?

Run this diagnostic script in terminal

Code: Select all

wget -N -t 5 -T 10 http://dl.dropbox.com/u/57264241/wireless_script && chmod +x wireless_script && ./wireless_script
It should create a file named wireless-info.txt in your home directory. Paste the contents of wireless-info.txt in a post using code tags

Post by JeremyB »

Have you tried a different USB port, as the wifi adapter does not show up at all in lsusb and it should when it is plugged in. Unplug it and wait 5 minutes, plug it back in and wait another 5 minutes then

Code: Select all

dmesg | grep tail
It might show what is going on

There are 2 runs in the last reply. The first was without the adapter plugged in. Then I edited the reply and ran the command again. I was using th wifi connection for the edited portion. It just dropped the wifi again. I am now using the wired connectionand will run your suggested command.

OK, I think I will drop this for now. It may be some problem with the computer that I'm trying Lime out on. I just know I don't have this isue with Windows XP on this computer. For now I'm going to move on to more important issues I am having trying to get lime up and fully functional for my use. If I can figure out how to fix some of the more important issues I am having, I'll install Lime on another computer and see if I still have wifi issues.

Thanks for your help

1. Make the infinite re-connect /etc/rc.local file.

Code: Select all

sudo nano /etc/rc.local
The contents

Code: Select all

#!/bin/sh -e
while true
do
killall NetworkManager
sleep 300
done
exit 0
Ctrl o (save)
Ctrl x (exit)
