Post by neob »

Hi,
I am a windows 7 user , and i install Mint 17 via VMware workstation.Mint 17 don't recognized my wireless card Atheros AR5B93.This is notebook Acer Aspire 5738ZG.
OS-----------------------------------LINUX MINT 17 CINNAMON 32-BIT
CINNAMON VERSION-----2.2.13
LINUX KERNEL---------------3.13.0-24-GENERIC
PROCESSOR------------------PENTIM DUAL CORE T4300 @ 2.10GHz X 1
MEMORY------------------------1.0 GB
HARD DRIVE------------------12 GB
GRAPHICS CARD-----------VMWARE SVGA II ADAPTER (PROG -if (VGA controller))

Code: Select all

iwconfig
lo no wireless extensions.

eth0 no wireless extensions.

Under windows 7 both network and wireless card work. With Mint 17 only network card work.I think this is hardware bloked.Need help.
Tnx

From what I have read you have to do some work in VM to route the hosts wifi so the other install can use it via a simulated wired connection

I set up in Virtual Network editor - name VMnet0 bridged ( Atheros AR5B93 wireless), and name VMnet8 Broadcom network adapter LAN.In VMware workstation I setup two Network adapters.First Network adapters is LAN,second Network adaters2 is Custom(VMnet0).Did I setup well?In Linux I see both, but in Vicd network manager I see only wired network, not wireless. What is next step?

Hi Jeremy8
In Windows 7 I disabled network adapter. In Virtual Network Editor I have ( VMnet0 bridged Atheros AR5B93 Wireless Network Adapter, VMnet1 host-only and I removed VMnet8 NAT).In VMware workstation>Edit virtual machine setting>Hardware ( I have only Network adapter-Bridged Automatic(checked Bridged and I'n not checked Replicate pxysical network connection state))>Power on virtual machine. In Mint 17 networking I have Network proxy and wired with hardware address which trying to connect and than auto disconnect.

You may want to think about a dual boot if possible because it is VMware that is causing the issue with wifi not being detected
