Slow "SpeedTest.net result due to needing updrade?

I am running Mint 16 on a Toshiba Satellite laptop. My connect speed is constantly between 6 and 12 Mbps at Speedtest.net. It should be 30Mbps+. I checked Win 7 and it was at 33Mbps
I have a Netgear wifi router.

Could it be I need to upgrade to Mint 17?

I can post any terminal output if needed..

You should generally run speed tests over a wired connection whenever you can, to rule out ISP problems.

Wow. I wish I could get 6Mbps. Good ol' Australia and its copper internet...
