Re: Wireless not working after LM 17 install, Dell Latitude

This may be your solution here:
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1939243
It solved a similar problem with the same BCM4311 802.11a/b/g (rev 01)==> PCI ID = 14e4:4312 (rev 01)
The correct driver for this device is not wl, no matter what 'Wireless Drivers' thinks. It is b43 and proprietary firmware. With the ethernet cable hooked up and connected, please do:
Code:
sudo apt-get remove --purge bcmwl-kernel-source
sudo apt-get install b43-fwcutter firmware-b43-installer
sudo reboot -n
Mint 18.2 Cinnamon, Quad core AMD A8-3870 with Radeon HD Graphics 6550D, 8GB DDR3, Ralink RT2561/RT61 802.11g PCI
Linux Linx 2018

Austin.Texas, thank you so much!!

However, I am also facing problem with the terminal. Either it gives me dpkg errors, or just keeps blinking after the command even if I wait for hours. When I close the terminal, it says there is a process there and it would be killed. I close anyway and then I am back to "unable to lock the administrative directory /var/lib/dpkg. Is another process using it?".

Here is copy of my last experience with it:

sudo apt-get remove --purge bcmwl-kernel-source
[sudo] password for elkhan:
E: Could not get lock /var/lib/dpkg/lock - open (11: Resource temporarily unavailable)
E: Unable to lock the administration directory (/var/lib/dpkg/), is another process using it?
elkhan@elkhan-Latitude-D430 ~ $ sudo lsof /var/lib/dpkg/lock
lsof: WARNING: can't stat() fuse.gvfsd-fuse file system /run/user/1000/gvfs
Output information may be incomplete.
COMMAND PID USER FD TYPE DEVICE SIZE/OFF NODE NAME
dpkg 2304 root 3uW REG 8,1 0 662660 /var/lib/dpkg/lock
elkhan@elkhan-Latitude-D430 ~ $ sudo kill -9 2304
elkhan@elkhan-Latitude-D430 ~ $ sudo apt-get remove --purge bcmwl-kernel-source
E: dpkg was interrupted, you must manually run 'sudo dpkg --configure -a' to correct the problem.
elkhan@elkhan-Latitude-D430 ~ $ sudo dpkg --configure -a

Ok, problem is fixed now.

Since I was getting problems with the commands, I just reinstalled LM 17 Cinnamon from scratch and immediately after it launched Terminal and did these commands, as advised:

sudo apt-get remove --purge bcmwl-kernel-source
sudo apt-get install b43-fwcutter firmware-b43-installer
sudo reboot -n

Worked like a charm. Thanks!
