Broadcom Additional Drivers fail

Post by LivinLarge »

When I either go through the system settings or use the terminal window the install of the firmware for my wireless driver fails.

I have installed Mint 13 Cinnamon (supposedly LTS) 32 bit on a Dell Inspiron 1300 with 1G Memory and a 160G HDD.

My wireless is a Broadcom BCM4318 802.11g

Here is what I get when I try to install using the terminal:

cassy@cassy-ME051 ~ $ sudo apt-get install linux-firmware-nonfree
[sudo] password for cassy:
E: dpkg was interrupted, you must manually run 'sudo dpkg --configure -a' to correct the problem.
cassy@cassy-ME051 ~ $ sudo dpkg --configure -a
Setting up bcmwl-kernel-source (6.20.155.1+bdcom-0ubuntu0.0.2) ...
Removing old bcmwl-6.20.155.1+bdcom DKMS files...

-------- Uninstall Beginning --------
Module: bcmwl
Version: 6.20.155.1+bdcom
Kernel: 3.2.0-23-generic (i686)
-------------------------------------

Status: Before uninstall, this module version was ACTIVE on this kernel.

wl.ko:
- Uninstallation
- Deleting from: /lib/modules/3.2.0-23-generic/updates/
- Original module
- No original module was found for this module on this kernel.
- Use the dkms install command to reinstall any previous module version.

depmod.......^Cdpkg: error processing bcmwl-kernel-source (--configure):
subprocess installed post-installation script was interrupted
Errors were encountered while processing:
bcmwl-kernel-source

When I try to install through the system settings - Additional Drivers it finds the firmware but when I try to install it freezes.
I checked my DVD install disk and it is fine. I used Killdisk to write the HDD to zeros before installing.

I ran all updates before attempting this and my Update manager says I am up to date. Any suggestions?

Hi,

just a stupid question but do you have another ethernet connection when you try this?
Seems you only have wifi? so what you are trying to do is cut the branch of the tree where you sit on.
