Lnux mint 7 - wifi issue
Hi
As background: I have an old computer which has been 'rubbish tip ready' for years. However i stumbled upon a newspaper article which advised installing linux to revive old computers, thought I would give it a go for a challenge and the kids to use for drawing, writing, cbeebies website etc.
The computer is dell inspiron 530, not sure about the wireless card its a broadcom 13... something?
Unfortunately i cannot get the wifi to work, tried a few basic things but really not sure where to start. assuming i need to install some sort of driver but again not certain.
Any assistance is very much appreciated
John

Hi
I noticed it didnt mention the wireless card. Ive been into drivers which says it is a broardcom wl-138g v2 / wl-138ge / wl-100ge. It says the device is not working in the drivers but it worked on windows 7 prior to installing mint7.
Thanks for any assistance people can provide
Thanks

Hi
Just wanted to thank you both for pointing me in the directoon of how to fix wifi issue. I followed beffalo instructions to uninstall and install b43 firmware and its worked a treat. Only faff was moving computer next to router which is fibreoptic so couldnt extend it.
Really chuffed i have my pc back. Works great now. Windows may become a distant memory. Been using its since win 95. Starting to wonder why!
Also following sorting wifi the computer shits down properly now whereas before it would hang and need turning off at the plug. No idea why but thpurght interesting point to note.
Thanks again!!
