If the modem loses power I have to shut down my laptop before it will connect to the wifi again. My wife has the same Mint but her laptop reconnects by itself. We have different laptops and software installed.
I tried
sudo service network-manager restart
but that doesn't help.
My installation is:
Linux k-eM350 3.11.0-12-generic #19-Ubuntu SMP Wed Oct 9 16:12:00 UTC 2013 i686 i686 i686 GNU/Linux

Re: internet restart wifi restart
Try if it works better under Mint 17, because that's the new Long Term Support version.
A live USB should do to test that.
If that works then you're up-to-date for the next couple of years.

HJow can i tell what version I'm on now? Won't I lose all my settings and programs? And if my wife has the same version why is it not a problem for her?

Re: internet restart wifi restart
You can see your version by typing any of these commands in the terminal
And yes, if you do a fresh install then you overwrite all you have.
There are also ways to upgrade but that is not the advised way.
The best way is to use MintBackup to backup your data and your programselection to an external disk and then do a clean install of Mint 17.
But first try if your problem is solved in Mint 17.
The problem you have and your wife hasn't will have to do with specific hardware and Linux support for that.
You might look at fixing it for your computer in this version, but it's better to do that in the version that can serve you for years to come.
Code: Select all
cat /etc/*release*
cat /etc/linuxmint/info
inxi -S

Re: internet restart wifi restart
thanks os much
appreciate your help
It's a trade off for me now. We don;'t lose modem power too often and it wasn't so long ago I installed Mint 16, so I'll have to consider my options.

If you want to fix the wifi then you might post some information here.
Type in the terminal the command
and paste the output.
Type in the terminal the command
Code: Select all
inxi -F

Re: internet restart wifi restart
Did some searching on AR9285 amongst other places at kernel.com.
There are some problems with it and yours might have to do with that.
See this link http://forum.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=53&t=138150 with some tips concerning iwlwifi.conf.
Or this one http://forum.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=90&t=142749 concerning ath9k.conf.
Perhaps one of these solutions makes the difference.
