My wifi config is here, having problems connecting

Post by aroute »

Hi, below is my config.

I have Linksys E1000 Wireless router with WPA2 Personal security enabled. My problem is that when I type my password (which is 8 char), the Linux connect box stays greyed out. I have gone through a lot of Googling by now and have managed to come this far (my wireless card initially was not detected during Mint installation).

I am on old laptop (Compaq Evo N410c) with PCMCIA card Linksys Wireless-G WPC54G ver2 (detected, as mentioned below).

Please help me setup Wireless connection. I have everything else working fine. I broke my main laptop and I am on a backup here.

Thanks in advance.

Have you tried changing the router settings to only allow b/g in network mode instead of b/g/n. Maybe setting up a temp guest network with no security just to test?

I tried your suggestion mentioned below. It didn't work. The connect button stays greyed out. Here is a strange thing: my passphrase is 8 characters, but if I delete 3 from it, then the connect button on Mint shows up. However, I can't set the passphrase to 5 characters in my router. So the question is, why does Mint needs 5 characters for a Wifi passphrase? Is there anywhere I can go to check on settings?

I think you must have set it up for 40 bit WEP security rather than WPA/WPA2 personal in your PC network settings, you should be able to search your menu for network for the network connections program and change the security
