I had the same problem with this B4318 Wireless card several releases back, running into it most recently with another Compaq Presario. I tried using the "Additional Drivers" tool with no success. Rebooted and still no success.

To solve this issue, I followed the instruction here: http://linux-bsd-sharing.blogspot.com/2 ... m4318.html

I tried this fix after installing the additional driver and it still worked, although its probably not as clean of an installation as it could be. After verifying the fix, I did a fresh reinstall, no additional drivers, applied the fix and voila.

If you don't have access to a hardline, you'll have to download the driver from somewhere else and transfer it to your computer. Good luck.

I had the same difficulty after installing Linux Sarah on a Presario V2000. Following the instructions given by tamgram in a preceeding post, the wifi came up immidiately after re-booting.
