Wifi disconnecting on Petra

Post by stolen_leaves »

Hi,

I am relatively new to linux. I recently installed it on windows pre installed laptop as dual boot and am having a major problem with it. The wifi keeps disconnecting for no apparent reason. There are many posts related to this problem but none of the solutions worked for me. So, I was wondering if someone could provide me a solution specific to my system.

I ran this -

Code: Select all

inxi -Fx
This is the output.

Code: Select all

Also, another related problem would be that, the range for my wifi is very short when picked up by linux. I mean, at a particular location, when I am on windows, I get perfect internet, while mint does might not even detect the wifi signal.

My device driver looks like this. When ever I try to use the broadcom driver, my wireless vanishes.

Please help people.

Thanks in advance

Just a bit of a contiunuation from above.

I did this after posting the question,

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get --reinstall install bcmwl-kernal-source
It automatically selected the bcmwl radiobutton... also boosted the ablility to capture wifi signal.

But on a restart, the wireless option was gone (Just as I mentioned above).

So, any help would be good. Thanks.

Install Wifi Radar

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get install wifi-radar

Hi,

Thanks for you reply. But, wifi radar does not help.

When I select the Broadcom driver and do the restart, the wireless option disappears. If I try to connect using wifi-radar, nothing happens and hangs at the Acquiring IP level. So, I restarted again after selecting not to use the Broadcom drivers, and it seems to connect with ease. But, as usual, the other problems come back. :(
