I installed Linux/GNU a couple of days ago - a 64bit Linux Mint to be more specific - and the installation did well. I downloaded Linux Mint 16 Petra here (http://www.linuxmint.com/edition.php?id=144), burned it on a DVD-R, turned off my MacBook Pro to reboot it. I got into the "program" running (actually the DVD, right?) and installed Linux. There was three things I needed to have to install it: a amount of so-so much space. Checked! And a charging cable. I had that too! But the third one I didn't have, and that was a network connected. We don't have a router, you see. We have a wi-fi network. (Or ... a wireless router? I am not sure if it's named that. But anywho, we don't have a wire to it. Don't know what the name of somenthing like that is called.) The problem I had with connecting to Internet was this: http://i.imgur.com/741Cw83.jpg
As you can see, when holding over the thingy-wingy that looks like a cable, no networks gets up. It just says Connected to the wired network. And when I click on it, it shows me the black box like shown on the image (http://i.imgur.com/741Cw83.jpg).
Belive me, I've tried anything in the power of my hand. I've spent plenty hours of hours of many hours of searching on the web to find a solution, and haven't find any. Not on DuckDuckGo.com, not on Startpage.org, not on Yahoo!, not Blackle.com and not even on Google. Neither of these search engines, regardless of how many times I've searched on different things, gave me a answer that worked. I even went so far to take the computer with me at school and ask my class mates, but they didn't have a clue. I also asked the teachers, but they didn't have time or didn't know what Linux/GNU was even. The caretaker had time, but he's kinda old and just asked why I have my computer on English. (Yes, my first language isn't English as you may yet have understood, but I very much like English, so, yeah ...)
Oh, and in the "READ: How to get help!" it also says that I should post the code I get in terminal when using the inxi-command. Here's what I get:
Code: Select all
CPU-Dual core Intel Core2 Duo CPU P8600 (-MCP-) clocked at 798.000 Mhz Kernel-3.
11-0-12-generic x86 64 Up-2:45 Mem-371.0/3696.3MB HDD-250.1GB(1.5% used) Procs-1
43 Client-Shell inxi-1.8.4
If it gets to any question about my problem I'll gladly answer it, but this pretty much sums it up: I installed Linux Mint 16 Petra a couple of days ago on my MacBook Pro. I installed the 64-bit version. This is what gets up when I go to Networking: http://i.imgur.com/6v9CnYt.jpg Just ask if you miss some details or information And YES, the Internet here works perfectly fine. It have worked perfectly fine on my computer until I installed Linux Mint, but on for example my phone it works. And on my dads computer.
