Hi All!
Was trying to improve performance of my Realtek 8188ee, and tried installing 3.12.1 backports. Did not like the result, and now have no wireless. Tried reinstalling kernel, all sorts of stuff. Still ehternet only. Can anybody help? I'd be happy jst to get the origina drivers back on and working.

modinfo gives the following: It seems the rtl8188ee.ko file exists, but now nothing sees anything
modinfo rtl8188ee

Re: Idiotically uninstalled my wireless drivers
let's start with checking whether if the module got loaded or not by run 'lsmod |grep realtek' in terminal. if the module isn't loaded we can load it by insmod command.
Re: Idiotically uninstalled my wireless drivers
Just wanted to add (in case your unaware) that the latest version of Mint and 8188's seem to not like each other. Although I didn't unnstall my drivers, it was only barely working out of the box; and had difficulty even with different drivers/kernel/etc. Using wicd and just ignoring the temporary disconnects has greatly improved my experience.
So what I'm sayiing is, it could be a two step process: undoing what's been done, then getting it to work. I hope this offers some semblance of assistance.
Best of luck, and don't forget to post results when you get it back up to par!

Re: Idiotically uninstalled my wireless drivers
Just wanted to get word out that I had slow and intermittent internet with my HP Pavilion 17 with rtl8188ee.
I upgraded the kernel to: linux-image-extra-3.13.0-34-generic
By performing:
apt-cache search linux-image
sudo apt-get install linux-image-your_version_choice (choose newest)
(http://askubuntu.com/questions/119080/h ... ro-upgrade)
It works much better now!
There is some talk that you need to upgrade to 3.14, and I don't think this is true, 3.13.0-34-generic works for me!
