Mint 16 Wireless Not Working - Using Apple Airport Extreme

Post by ahsu »

Hello!

I just loaded Petra onto my HP ProBook 4540s several days ago. I am a brand new user and am still getting used Linux, but I love it so far. Currently, I am jacked in via ethernet cable, but I can't seem to access my wireless network. I can see it in my network manager and it does try to connect. However, it ends up failing, and sometimes says "Out of range". My wireless card is "Ralink corp. RT3290 Wireless 802.11n 1T/1R PCIe" (see code below).

On another note, I went to Starbucks today and tested the wifi AND IT WORKED! So I know that something is working.

Try this:

Look for the first answer, the solution starts like this:

"Since your vendor id is 1814:3290 it means you have a Ralink RT3290 wireless card. For that case we (After connecting the wired cable):"

@jungle_boy: Thanks for your reply, I just saw it today. I tried it but I was getting the errors mentioned in the comments. Here's an update on the situation though:

During the Christmas break, I was down in Florida and I was able to connect to a wifi connection. At least I have the capability to connect to the router. Then, I thought of an issue that I wasn't sure was relevant, but am definitely sure is relevant now: The router that I am attempting to connect to is an Apple Airport Extreme router.

I have HP Prbook 4740s, and after I installed Petra computer would connect to my router, but
it would disconnect after a few seconds. I did the guide jungle_boy posted and
now it is working perfectly. So are you sure you did everything correctly in the guide
because you can encounter some errors.
