Post by Mr_B »

I'm newbee and looked around for some hours without being successful solving my problem
What happended:
During installation of Mint 16 the wireless connection seemed not to be a problem. My network was found and i got the connection.
But after reboot, the connection to WLAN does't work
I use a SAMSUNG NC10 netbook. with an Atheros wireless card
I think i have some problems with my wrapper, but i'm not sure and i have no idea, how to fix the problem

Hello again,

after many hours of googeling testing and a lot of suffering, I decided to go back to Mint 12. (There are still no problems with my card)
So I will come back with MINT 17, hopefully my card will be OK there.

From my point of View, you can close this issue - no observation by me any longer

Thanks so far

I just installed "Linux Mint 16" and had the same problem as you did. I fixed it by going to the Driver Manager, then select the driver that was not selected. Once loaded and installed it worked perfectly. I am using my wifi to submit this comment.

Last time I did that my ethernet stopped working and wireless still didn't work. What is your network car? I have a broadcom BCM4311...

responding to kjlynn:
The network card was not lintened in device manager. How you install and load the wireless card in device manager.

Looking at mintwifi output, you can see, that the card got the IP Address by DHCP.
But the connection does't work. All pings were unsuccessful. Using wifiradar I also see my wifi.
I have no idea, why it doesn't't work.

Thanks for your reply

Can you post the output of the following terminal command:

Code: Select all

inxi -Nn
This will give us more detailed info about your network devices.

reply to nomko's question
ok, I've installed Mint16 (petra) again. There is still the same problem.
Here is the output on inxi -Nn

Code: Select all

hansi@hansi-NC10 ~ $ inxi -Nn
Network: Card-1: Qualcomm Atheros AR242x / AR542x Wireless Network Adapter (PCI-Express) driver: ath5k

IF: eth0 state: up speed: 100 Mbps duplex: full mac: 00:13:77:f8:c6:1f
Hint: At the moment, I'm connected via eth0, which works fine (instead of the wireless card :( )

Re: Mint 16 Wireless Problem after installing: SOLVED!

Possibly same something going on here?..... Inspiron 6000 with intel 2200bg mint 16.
Wireless connects. Then disconnects. Ran ping to router, after 35 or 40 pings, ping gets no response.
rfkill before, happy rfkill afterward, no servers reached. Thought the driver might be unloading.
lsmod before and sfter provided a clue but not much of one.
lib80211_crypt_ccmp show no users before 2 users afterward.
mintwifi shows no locks.

Repeatable consistantly.

Encryption failure ????

Update: My 2 GB RAM arrived and I installed it. Miraculously, the wireless stopped disconnecting and now seems solid. Not sure why unless the driver was running out of space to buffer (in kernelpace??!??). Or possibly just running the bios setup?, or............... Anyway it works....

I likewise have the exact same problem with Mint 16.
I have tried for days to get the wireless to work to no avail.
Then when I turn on the laptop today, suddenly the wireless works ?, however, it just as suddenly stopped working after about 30 minutes.
A reboot didn't help.
I did a <sudo lshw> and a <sudo inxi -Nn> and the wireless card is no longer showing !?

Could this be related to recent updates? I've kept up with the updates and have noticed a steady degradation over the past week or two. I was only throwing words, last night, while I was looking at the laptop...

EDIT: Different day, different location, WiFi is working flawlessly on Christmas Eve.

Had the identical problem. After first boot, computer wouldn't network, either wireless or wired.
SOLUTION: Somehow the bios network setting had been affected, disabled. Changed the setting to enabled, all is well.
Go figure. Strange. Regards all, Bob

EDIT: Different day, different location, WiFi is working flawlessly on Christmas Eve.
I spoke too soon. There is at least one forum that remains a problem.
TheTreeofLiberty.com/vb forums take forever. Sometimes, frustration leads me to believe that the site is under another dDOS attack.

Tabs will open and begin to load, then simply fail to progress. There will be a message at the bottom of the tab that indicates "read 74.119.217.120...", or "waiting for 74.119.217.120...".

Usually, I will load several threads in their own tab, then click the green arrow on the address bar, or hit the refresh-reload button multiple times. Some tabs will load faster than others, when they finally do load.

Sometimes, the tabs will load properly after restarting the browser with the tabs loaded, but only after I switch to that tab, following the restart.

This is a member-supported site. There are no advertisements, no super cookies, no DOM storage issues, no nothing to interfere with rendering pages.

I had considered reinstalling the operating system, as well as considered installing LM13 LTS.

I do not think this is a T-Mobile hotspot issue., though I am a trucker and usually in a different location or state, from day to day. I do go to remote locations and will use free wifi, if I can find it. Other times, I'm near big, modern cities, and the problem persists.

Frustrating, to say the least.

Edit: One of the terminal commands showed the Device MAC Address as lower case.
Could the network settings cause any difficulty by using upper case?

Code: Select all

Device MAC Address: 60:36:DD:28:89:C1 (wlan0)

Problem solved, but not sure about the origin of the problem
What happened:
Today I've installed a FRITZ WLAN repeater. As my entry router is an D-Link Router, I configured this repeater as LAN Bridge.
The WLAN Keyword for the second WLAN SSID is 63 Byte (is maxlen at FRITZ Repeater). For Information: My D-Link key has a max length of 64 Bytes (and I used the complete length) The FRITZ Repeater uses channel 1, the D-Link Router WLAN is transmitted using channel 6
So, the probelm could be
the No of the channel,
the 64 Bytes length
or the Fritz Repeater WLAN implementation acts a little differen to my D-Link router

--- no idea

Solution: After installation, it connect the network cable and install driver from Driver manager. If the cable is not connected then you can not install driver. It is strange that the wireless card is recognized in live dvd. After rebooting wireless driver is not installed. This problem does not exist in Linux Mint 15.
