Wireless printing on Samsung M2020
There is an older thread that should answer my question but doesn't quite. I have set up my samsung M2020 printer, and it works when wired. I can't, however set it up for wireless printing. According to a previous thread more than six months old, I should go to administration>printers, which I have done, tick add printer, select my printer, and it is done. The problem comes with 'select my printer'. It is listed under devices, but when I click on network printer I am told to enter the URI of the device, and there are a number of choices for the prefix: e.g., ipp, ipps, and so on. I feel that if I could know what to do there I could complete the job. I'll be grateful for help.

Re: Wireless printing on Samsung M2020
I just had to click on the network printer under select device for my HP all in one and wait about 10 seconds and it showed up
I see there are linux drivers http://www.samsung.com/levant/support/m ... -M2020/SAU and a FAQ for installing drivers for Ubuntu- which should work with LM

Re: Wireless printing on Samsung M2020
Thank you Jeremy B for your reply. I have successfully downloaded the driver, which is why I can connect on the wired network. However, when I tick on Network I get the following:
Sorry, I can't seem to give you that. I have tried for hours to copy a screen shot, with no luck, so I can only write that the screen shows under devices: Samsung, LPT#1, Serial Port#1, enter URI. Then it gives Network and under that, find netowrk printer and then a series of rubircs: e.g., internet printing protocol (ipp), internet printing protocol (https) and several more.
It is a pity that Samsung note on the web site and the printer packaging that they support Linux, but instructions are pretty much limited to Microsoft and Mac.

Re: Wireless printing on Samsung M2020
Try using localhost:631/admin in your web browser to see if the printer shows up in CUPS

Re: Wireless printing on Samsung M2020
Please don't think me unappreciative. I had to take off a couple of days for hospital. I have managed by interpolating from the site you mentioned and got the printer installed, or so I thought. It shows up when I go the printer category. However, when I try to print, I am told 'printer error: printer connecting to internet'. But it doesn 't.
Re: Wireless printing on Samsung M2020
Not a big deal, some things are more important than a printer.beacon wrote:Please don't think me unappreciative. I had to take off a couple of days for hospital. According to a manual I saw, you may be able to push a wifi protected setup button(looks like a couple curved arrows) for 10 seconds and it should print out network information. This should give you the IP address of the printer if it is connected to your network. I see chilli555 has been posting here lately, he might have some ideas
Re: Wireless printing on Samsung M2020
This is driving me mad, and it annoys me the hours I have spent on it. I wonder if I could add another bit of information. As I have stated, I have tried to install the printer both by using the Cups site and by using Samsung's directions, which aren't, by the way, as helpful as they might be. I seem to get the system to recognise the printer, but when I try to 'print test page', nothing happens, and I get the message 'connecting to device'. The connection is never achieved, but on my last try I got the message 'failed to create symbolic link 'usr/share/ppd/custom/samsung' : file exists.
I wonder if this helps someone to understand what I am doing wrong, or perhaps not doing right.
Thanks

This might be some help

You probably already have a newer version of the driver needed. I wonder if a PPD file is there?

Re: Wireless printing on Samsung M2020
Thank you again Jeremy, and I hope your patience will last a bit longer. I found the website you mentioned quite helpful and thought it would be the answer. However, I'm still trying. May I tell you precisely the steps I take, which may help you decide whether I am too thick or just hapless? Following the instructions in the web site, I have gone to the downloads file where I put the driver. I then opened the file in the terminal and typed in tar -xf. ULD.V1.00.27.04.tar.gz. I am then told that there is no such file or that it cannot be connected. So I am stuck at the first hurdle.
You asked about PPD files. There is in the CUPS adminstration page a place where one can add a printer and a direction to put in host name OR PPD file. I ticked on the latter and added the file as above (ULD.V!.00.27.04.tar.gz). Immeidately it seemed that I was on the right track, and the printer was recognised. But once agian when I try to print a test page, or any other page, the message is 'trying to connect'.
I feel certain that I am overlooking something quite simple, but don't know what it could be.

Code: Select all
dmesg | tail -20

I won't presume on your patience much longer but thank you for all your help. I typed in the code, but since then I have been trying to send a screenshot with the results. No luck. That seems to be my problem. I can't solve one problem without having to stop and research another. If I find an answer I shall get in touch again.

Re: Wireless printing on Samsung M2020
I wonder if anyone can pick up where Jeremy B and I left off. Since then I have spent even more hours, written to Samsung (who wrote back, but I can't make sense of the language), and tried everything I can read on the web. Below is what I get when I type 'dmesg | tail -20':

Download the Linux driver (tar.gz file) from this link:
http://www.samsung.com/levant/support/m ... -M2020/SAU
Put the file on your Desktop.
Extract the file. Now your Desktop will have the folder ULD
Click on the Terminal (Black) Icon (ie. open terminal
Type sudo
then Use mouse or trackpad drag the uld folder into terminal .
Now your terminal will look like this: sudo ´/home/XXXXXX/Destop/uld´
use arrow key to move cursor to the single-quotations and delete them
Now will be like this /home/XXXXXX/Destop/uld
after uld type /install.sh
The press Enter key
answer Y for install
Terms & Conditions screen appear on Terminal with More.. highlight
Slowly press space bar one by one screen
Then Appear Äre You Agree?¨
Press Y , Enter
and Wait Until uccessfull installed¨
NOW back to your normal configuration printer procedure (Mneu-->Administration-->Printers
right click any printer you installed but not successful and delete it

Great. You earned your two pence. I had finally got someone to do the job, but now I have instructions for future use. Many thanks.
Re: Wireless printing on Samsung M2020
I wonder if anyone, particularly LeThuyVI, can again come to the rescue. I have had to reinstall and am using a new router (using the latest version of Linux Mint (with the cinnamon desktop), and I have run into the exact same problem as before and, again, I am stuck, despite having spent literally days on the matter. I have downloaded the proper universal linux installer and have followed directions from every site I can locate. I can print with ethernet, but not wirelessly. I thought Le ThuyVI's directions would do the job, but even following them carefully step by step and the installation is successful,I still get to that final bit: when I try to print a test page, there is printer error: device not connected'. I feel abashed to have to ask the same thing, but I am getting nowhere.
With thanks.
