Problems using Intel 7260AC with Mint 17 Xfce and i5 NUC

Post by jam09 »

I'm trying to use my Intel 7260AC wireless and having trouble getting connected. I'm new to Linux, although I note that the same driver listed by intel is present in /lib/firmware/iwlwifi-7260-7 -8 and -9. The WiFi connection is not shown in the Network controller on the task bar, although the wired connection is present and working.
inxi -Fxz shows:

I've looked at the various posts about this and remain stumped. Appreciate any help getting this working, I abandoned windows (I'm primarily an OS X user) because WiFi wouldn't work.

I want you to download pastebin and run a script that should give some more info about your wireless settings, in terminal do

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get install pastebinit

Code: Select all

wget -N -t 5 -T 10 http://dl.dropbox.com/u/57264241/wireless_script && chmod +x wireless_script && ./wireless_script
When the script asks if you want to upload to pastebin, choose Y and copy the URL that follows with the mouse and paste it into a reply

It might be difficult to fix if it didn't work in windows

I would use mint update manager, click view then linux kernels. You may have to make the window bigger to see the install buttons. I would install 3.13.0-37 and reboot

If it doesn't improve

Code: Select all

./wireless_script
and post the new results

A strange bug you have, try

Code: Select all

sudo modprobe -r iwlwifi

Code: Select all

sudo modprobe iwlwifi
Have you tried with just the 7260-7 firmware?

How would I do that, remove the other firmware versions? Could this be one of the so-called white list issues linking device to manufacturers hardware?

I don't think it is a whitelist issue, what was the original card?

I would use Synaptic Package Manager and search for linux-firmware and install/reinstall/update just in case it is something fixed in firmware.

This might have a chance to work

Code: Select all

echo "options iwlwifi bt_coex_active=N" | sudo tee -a /etc/modprobe.d/iwlwifi.conf
Reboot

Code: Select all

dmesg | grep -i rfkill

No joy. I'm returning this card - everything else works wonderfully. Recommendations for a turn key N or AC wireless device compatible with Mint 17 on an Intel NUC i5 anyone? I've ordered the uber expensive USB-N adapter from Penguin, but it seems very pricey. Thanks for all the assistance, I'll gladly donate.

I would like you to do a new download of the LM17 ISO and burn it to a DVD/USB and see if that card works, there is a chance something was corrupt during your install. I am not saying to do a reinstall but see if the wifi works when booting the Live version.

I don't know how many versions there are of this card but I have two installed in laptops and they work..but it is your choice.
I have a few intel cards and they were issue free from my standpoint, the only issue was drivers for LM13 and that was solved using backports. I would suggest(if my other ideas don't work) is to search google for whatever model number the NUC has along with linux wifi and see what you find, good and bad

Thanks JeremyB, already on the UPS truck headed back. Lots and lots of issues with this card and the NUC (and other machines) and Intel not helpful. The live boot is a great idea, but card is gone as I said. Should have tested it before the install. Live and Burn.
