Hi,
I have been looking for a decent webcam to use with Linux Mint 17.2. It looks like the Logitech HD Webcam C525 is OK, but I have found mixed reviews. Some of them say it works and some say that it gives some problems. I looked in the hardware database and found this http://community.linuxmint.com/hardware/view/22747. I also found this post http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.p ... 25#p695026. Has anyone used this camera? Any feedback? Or any recommendations of a good webcam?
Thank you!

Re: Logitech HD Webcam C525 and Linux Mint 17.2 Compatibilit
HI richi3x2,
Most USB, wireless, and network IP webcams will work with any Linux Mint edition. If you buy one locally, and it doesn't work for you, then you can always take it back. Of course if you buy one from another source, like Amazon.com, or Ebay, then they usually have good return policies as well. I use a Logitech c270 and it works well (720p resolution).
There are some really good utilities and application programs available in your Software Manager or Synaptic Package Manager that you can install once you have a webcam installed, like the "v4l" programs for "Video 4 Linux" utilities (programs). There are numerous webcam programs as well, just search for "webcam", one or more might already be in your "MultiMedia" menu and or your "Graphics" menu.
Note: I have found that 4-port USB hubs that do not have their own power supplies (Passive USB hubs) more often than not will not work properly if you try to connect your webcam, USB printer, USB flash drives, etc... And even worse, they sometimes work intermittently which can drive you crazy, so I recommend that you not use them, except for maybe USB Flash drives.
According to the web links below, this specific camera does work.

I received the Logitech HD Webcam C525 today. I plugged it directly into a USB port in the CPU (no hubs). Powered up the PC, did a "lsusb" and it was there. Then I installed skype and tested it. It seems to work ok. It just worked out of the box.

If you want to, you can now try various webcam programs to see which one you like the most, like Skype (you already know), Google Talk (Google Hangouts) (= free phone & video calls)), Cheese, guvcview, camorama, kamoso, kamerka, etc... There are really great programs for motion detection and security like "Motion" & "Zoneminder", etc... There are also some really cool video editors for creating your own movies from camera images, webcam video, etc ... some even capture directly from your webcam, like "Kdenlive"; some others are: Lives, Flowblade, Openshot, Avidemux, etc...
Have fun ...
