Please help I'm a noob.

I downloaded the file...and then...

THE SOLUTION!
"I get it work now. The 14.04 kernel is missing the firmware for the bluetooth hardware.

I have downloaded the firmware, renamed and copied it appropriately and now bluetooth is working:

wget http://wielki.tk/vostro/debs/bt-bcm4314 ... _amd64.deb

dpkg-deb -x bt-bcm43142-onereic_0.0+20111116somerville2_amd64.deb bt-bcm43142

sudo cp bt-bcm43142/lib/firmware/BCM43142A0_001.001.011.0028.0036.hcd /lib/firmware/fw-105b_e065.hcd

sudo rmmod btusb

sudo modprobe btusb"
MY TRY....

What do I do and how do I do it after downloading..
After this command: dpkg-deb -x bt-bcm43142-onereic_0.0+20111116somerville2_amd64.deb bt-bcm43142
I Get this respond
cp: cannot stat ‘bt-bcm43142/lib/firmware/BCM43142A0_001.001.011.0028.0036.hcd’: No such file or directory
????
What do I have to rename an how do I copy it appropriately??

I tried

wget http://wielki.tk/vostro/debs/bt-bcm4314 ... _amd64.deb
dpkg-deb -x bt-bcm43142-onereic_0.0+20111116somerville2_amd64.deb bt-bcm43142
sudo cp bt-bcm43142/lib/firmware/BCM43142A0_001.001.011.0028.0036.hcd /lib/firmware/fw-105b_e065.hcd
sudo rmmod btusb
sudo modprobe btusb

The icon of bluetooth went off and on.

Still no devices found and still:

So is there a result from

Code: Select all

ls /lib/firmware | grep fw-105b_e065.hcd

It might just need a reboot

Reboot did not work
The result..

jorrit@jorrit-laptop ~ $ ls /lib/firmware | grep fw-105b_e065.hcd
fw-105b_e065.hcd
jorrit@jorrit-laptop ~ $

jorrit@jorrit-laptop ~ $
I might have found an issue

Code: Select all

gksudo gedit /etc/modprobe.d/bcm43142.conf
And the end of that file has this

Code: Select all

--patchram /lib/firmware/BCM43142A0_001.001.011.0028.0036.hcd hci0 &
so it should be changed to

Code: Select all

--patchram /lib/firmware/fw-105b_e065.hcd hci0 &
save, exit program and reboot

The link http://wielki.tk/vostro/debs/bt-bcm4314 ... _amd64.deb doesn't work. Could anybody send this file to me or upload it to dropbox?

Some of this is integrated into the kernel now. Post the result of

Code: Select all

lsusb; dmesg | egrep -i 'blue|firm'; uname -a

The file must not have updated on dropbox so I made a different one

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get install build-essential linux-headers-generic
wget https://www.dropbox.com/s/s9xmgtwg4g68wx1/bluetooth-3.19-v2.tar.gz
tar -zxvf bluetooth-3.19-v2.tar.gz
cd bluetooth
cp -v /usr/src/linux-headers-$(uname -r)/Module.symvers .
make -C /lib/modules/$(uname -r)/build M=$(pwd) modules
sudo modprobe -r btusb
sudo cp btusb.ko /lib/modules/$(uname -r)/kernel/drivers/bluetooth/btusb.ko
sudo modprobe btusb
Then see if

Code: Select all

dmesg | egrep -i 'blue|firm'
has a filename

No problem, if you mean you need to

Code: Select all

sudo modprobe btusb
after a reboot for it to work, just do

Code: Select all

echo btusb | sudo tee -a /etc/modules
and you shouldn't need to use any commands
