Linux Mint 17 Battery Life Terrible

Post by MichaelWentworth »

I installed Linux Mint 17 Cinimon yesterday, and my battery dies very quickly. Very sad, too, considering I really liked this distribution. Roughly 1% decrease per minute. My battery on every other distro? 8 and half hour. This distro? 1 and a half. Why so?

Hi,

Please supply more information about your laptop etc.
I had the same problem with my Dell XPS 15z, but it has 2 graphic cards (i7, Nvidia 525M) and once I installed Bumblebee it made a huge differance.
I'm using Mint 16 and I can say for sure that I have better Battery life with Mint than with Windows 7 (with VMware running and more).

See this link for general information, you may find it usfull:

If you have 2 graphic cards, then look at this:

If it wont resolve your problem, please update.

Hi

I have the same problem stated in the title of this post. I am running mint 17 with cinnamon, on a i7 (Haswell) Thinkpad x240, 8gb of RAM. The laptop has been appraised by everyone for its battery life (with the dual battery 3 cells+3 cells it should get 8.5 hours with wifi, etc) but I get only 4 hours at max.
I don't know what to do. Installed TPC, it makes no difference. Should I switch from cinnamon to mate? Or something else?

Thanks heaps for any help you would able to give!

Cheers

michele
