Wifi not working in Lenovo Essential B490 (59-413237)

Hi,

I have installed Linux Mint 17 "Qiana" in my Lenovo Essential B490 (59-413237) Laptop. The Option to connect to wifi itself is not shown and wifi card is not recognized. How can I get it resolved ? Please assist.

If this returns some info that includes [14e4:4365] you will need to have a wired connection to download

Hi,
I have installed drivers with command "sudo apt-get install bcmwl-kernel-source". It has shown the list of wifi networks and I have connected to one of those but I am unable to surf the internet.

The browsers and other application notify me as "Not connected to internet" but my wifi notification shows that I am connected to internet. Below are the requested results.

First thing I would do is change the router encryption settings to WPA2-AES only, it might be called WPA2-PSK. It appears that there is a USB device and a wired connection, you should unplug at least the ethernet connection to see if the wifi works. I have no idea what USB device is connected

I have connected internet to my Laptop with the Help of Tethering in MobilePhone. It's connected to Wifi and have plugged it in USB. I have tried disconnecting the Mobile (USB) and connected Laptop to wifi. Notification is shown as connected but I couldn't access the internet.

Changing the router encryption settings would be little difficult since it's centralised and I don't have access. Please suggest how can I get it resolved.

Is it possible to talk to whoever does have access to the router and ask if the settings can be changed? WPA2-AES is more secure than TKIP

I have been unable to find any post on internet that claims this card and driver in Linux works with TKIP unfortunately. I will search for other solution

I have one of these. I switched my wifi over to TKIP and was able to use the WN1000RP to repeat the signal using WPA2-AES

I have formatted and installed Cinnamon 17.1 - 64 Bit. Everything is working fine. Thanks everyone for comments and suggestions.
