Fonts in Firefox "crumble" (Mint 16 Mate RC)
Hi! I installed Mint 16 Mate RC and it works fine, except that some of the letters in web pages "crumble" to an unreadable mess after a few seconds.
Scrolling fixes them, but then it happens again.
It only seems to happen on the external monitor, not on the notebook display.
Haven't seen anything like that before, it's really weird.
Hardware:
HP Elitebook 2530p
Intel Graphics
Core2 Duo 1,87 GHz
Acer monitor 1920x1080, connected via analog VGA on docking station

Mine is HP-8000 CPU, Desktop, quad core Q8400
intel 4 graphic
external monitor via VGA.
I just have a hunch, from old memory some 1.5-2.5 year ago.
perhaps it might be related to theme.
you might like to try change another theme ( only three by default but you could install other popular themes) and see if firefox still randomly show garbled text.
Re: Fonts in Firefox "crumble" (Mint 16 Mate RC)
will try that when I get home.
thanks!
thanks!
Re: Fonts in Firefox "crumble" (Mint 16 Mate RC)
changing themes did not help.
any changes on your HP machine?
edit: weird. apparently I have 2 accounts on here.

Re: Fonts in Firefox "crumble" (Mint 16 Mate RC)
this is kind of a showstopping bug.
now I will have to leave my favourite distro and go search for another debian-based distro with an old-school desktop.

Re: Fonts in Firefox "crumble" (Mint 16 Mate RC)
Thanks for the advice, but it (disabling hardware acceleration in Firefox) didn't work. I don't think it is the same problem because the fonts in screenshots given in that post doesn't look like mine. Additionally, yesterday I saw the same problem in Writer. Although not as frequent as in Firefox, this seemed to me a system wide problem.catfish12 wrote:hi try this post back any good results

Re: Fonts in Firefox "crumble" (Mint 16 Mate RC)
I always used Gnome 2, then Mate. I tried Cinnamon, it has the same problem. Never seen anything like this before. I installed RCs and applied all the updates. Maybe I should install final version from the beginning.
Re: Fonts in Firefox "crumble" (Mint 16 Mate RC)
ok try a fresh install of mint 16 finale /stable my install was from fresh but like i say xfce was cool but mint 16 problems check back and let me no

Re: Fonts in Firefox "crumble" (Mint 16 Mate RC)
Same issue here.
Linux Mint 16 64bit Cinnamon freshly installed yesterday + packages updated via "Update Manager".
I was running Mint 14 before and don't remember seeing the issue.
Config : Dell laptop 6400 with 2 external screens (VGA + DVI), the issue is happening in Firefox on both external screens (the laptop screen is closed).
Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU P9700 @ 2.80GHz
I have not installed any specific graphic driver, it's all from the default install.
The issue doesn't go away when scrolling the screen but it goes away if I select the text with the mouse (or if I select anywhere on the line).
Also typing/deleting text in this forum reply box make some "blurbs" happen in the lines/characters already typed. I can see them from the corner of my eye as I type but they get instantly corrected.
To reproduce : type a line of garbage text, you might see pixels being changed and fixed left from where you type.
Deleting the whole line with backspace also makes these small pixel issues happen and disappear.
I do not see a similar issue when using the Text Edtor.
Hope that helps...
Edit: just saw the same issue in a Terminal window (though much less frequently).
