Installation of linux mint 17 sfce on old pc

Post by sekar »

Hi, i am new for linux

During installation linux mint 17 xfce from dvd, it shows the below error like....

"The installer encountered an error copying files to the hardware [Errno 5] Input/Output error.
This is often due to faulty CD/DVD disk or drive, or a faulty hard disk. It may help to clear the CD/DVD drive lens (Cleaning kits are often available from electronics supplies), to check whether the hard disk is old and in need of replacement or to move the system to cooler environment."

My system configuration is ...
AMD Athlon XP (10 year old processor), 1GB RAM, 160GB hard disk, DVD writer.

regards,
sekar

The error says the problem. You are using DVD for installation right? Did you burn the disk on low speeds? Did you also try "Check CD for Defects" before you proceeded with the installation?

Some members have also found that disabling the slideshow that runs during install helps . .

Run this in terminal just before you start the install next time . . good luck.

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get remove ubiquity-slideshow-mint
