Re: Zsnes wont start
Maybe since it is circa 2005, that mouse program doesn't meet the requirements for a modern Linux OS: libraries and so on..

Ubuntu that component ??

- What works:
Modern Unix systems through X11's XInput2 extension.
Linux 2.4/2.6/etc through the "evdev" kernel interface.

- apt-get install xorg-dev
Re: Zsnes wont start
Ok, i've installed xorg-dev. Nothing happened, the problem remains.

Now this is interesting. Check out this page, answer #2: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+sour ... bug/861009
The temporary solution that bloke offered (zsnes -v 2) worked for me. But I don't know where the */.zsnes folder is to try the definitive solution it offered. It looks like the program is trying to load fullscreen and ManyMouse gets on the way. Any light on how changing those config file permissions will affect the way it starts?

Re: Zsnes wont start
Hi
Try to uninstall then reinstall Zsnes with Package Manager (Synaptic).
Check zsnes:i386 for complete removal, apply
then reinstall it.
Go to Menu, Applications, Games and click on Zsnes to launch it.
It should work without any problems at all.
there should be no need to enter your password so why are you??
If you are using the Terminal to launch it then that may explain it but
you do not need to use the terminal. Just look in Menu/Games for
the Zsnes application and launch it from there.

Re: Zsnes wont start
My experience of ZSNES on Ubuntu is that it's quite crash-prone (usually after about 40 mins play). I use Higan instead.
Re: Zsnes wont start
My experience with Higan is it won't work with OpenGL set. Complains at launch [Error: OpenGL 3.2 is not available. Select another video driver on the Advanced Configuration tab and restart higan.], but I'm using the Oibaf PPA and am up to date. I can use SDL I suppose, but OpenGL has better performance surely?
I installed Ubuntu 15.04 yesterday as my secondary OS, and it seems a lot of favourite emulation programs aren't available or haven't been updated for some time. Same on Windows too in fact. My usual go-to for SNES is SNES9x-gtk, but that hasn't had a PPA update since Trusty and that package doesn’t work. There's hardly any Sega emulation available, though I can install Kega Fusion with a bit of terminal fun. Granted I can use Mupen, but I haven't checked if M64py works yet. Retroarch isn't working. It seems though that desktop console emulation is in stasis. In fact I'm having to use older WinXP-based emulators on WINE. It's the only way I can get consistent working emulators at the moment.
I imagine this is largely because a lot of developers have just moved onto Android sadly. Luckily I have an Ouya which is amazing for emulation and gaming in general, and I'm still using 17.1 for my main desktop which is based on Trusty. But I would love to see movement again on Linux.
