Really? I'm sorry, I'm a real noob. There is no trace of compiz working, so far as I can see. Perhaps I'm trying to trigger the effects wrongly. I thought all those 'stop plug' and 'unload plugin' reports meant that compiz was not running things, that it ran into a wall and bounced right off. Wobbly windows doesn't work, for example, when I move a window or shake it about, but is ticked in the config gui application. Is there, by the way, a list of commands to trigger the effects, anywhere?

I wish I knew this earlier, I managed to get pretty much everything I wanted working, except for cube (workspaces).
Is there some workaround, or do I have to install mate or something else?
I like compiz.
Thanx
compiz works only in mint mate , however i have tested mate 17.1 and compiz and after compiz --replace the system freeze , not a good thing to use compiz if you ask me , better mint 16
Hi
I am really new to forums so I apologise for being a noob.
Have just installed Mint 17 MATE and want to get compiz up and running.
Everything is installed but compiz --replace seems to stop half way and I cant move the windows around

I will simply believe you are right so far, because obviously you have tried and it did not work for you and as it seems for others either.
, better mint 16
but I must seriously disagree with this part.
Recommending an outdated Linux Mint version cannot be the solution!
Yet, there may be hope, because Mint 17.1 RC is said to have greatly improved with respect to compiz on Mate: Out of the box support for Compiz
