Need help installing a desklet
I downloaded the Weather Desklet from the Spices page and unzipped it into ~/.local/share/cinnamon/desklets per the instructions on the page. I had to create the desklets directory, btw. How do I launch it? I've installed gDesklets, but I can't add it to that app. What am I missing?
I'm running 32-bit Maya with Cinnamon.

Which weather desklet did you download?
To install it you click on "Add to desktop".
That is how it works in Linux Mint 17 Cinnamon.
As an experiment I downloaded the AccuWeather Desklet and set it to a major city near where I live. It tells me that it is going to be 12°C today whereas, in fact, it is going to be 27°C - so out it goes.
I use the weather Applet by mockturtl on my panel which is accurate.

Re: Need help installing a desklet
I'm running Maya (Mint v.13) so that install method must not be available.
I'm trying to run the Weather Desklet from the Spices web site: http://cinnamon-spices.linuxmint.com/desklets

Re: Need help installing a desklet
According to the site "To install a desklet: Download it and decompress it in ~/.local/share/cinnamon/desklets."
You should not have to create the desklet directory. Check in .local/share/cinnamon, there should be 3 directories only: applets, desklets, extensions.
After that, open System Settings, click on Desklets and then activate it by "Add to desktop".

Re: Need help installing a desklet
There is no Desklets icon in my System Settings window or any menu. I tried installing it using gDesklets, but it's not working.

Re: Need help installing a desklet
I just had a look online and in cinnamon 1.8 there is a Desklet entry in the Control Centre:

Would you check if it looks like yours.

Re: Need help installing a desklet
Ah, that must be it. I have Cinnamon 1.4 installed. I have an Apples icon in my system Settings, and when I clik on Get More Applets it takes me to the Cinnamon Spices web site where I got the the weather desklet. So do I upgrade to Cinnamon 1.8 or is that not advisable with Maya?

Is it listed in Synaptic? If so, you are good to go...So do I upgrade to Cinnamon 1.8 or is that not advisable with Maya?

It is not. What I have installed is the latest version available for Maya I guess.

Re: Need help installing a desklet
Good news. Cinnamon 2.0.14 is available through Synaptic
http://packages.linuxmint.com/list.php? ... a#backport
All you have to do is enable the backports, and update your sources.
EDIT: Exercise due caution. Update your backups. You probably do not want to leave backports enabled.
