I have mint 12 and want to update to a next version. I'm posting because on my mint compiz doesn't work, and I want to upgrade to a version that supports compiz. I would prefer a version that has a "good look" (a lot of cool graphics). Keep in mind that I want wine, virtual box and docky WORKING.

It is best that you do a frsh install of Linux Mint Mate edition if you want compiz. If you want an LTS go with Mint 13 Maya and here is how you run compiz on it http://community.linuxmint.com/tutorial/view/1270 
For Mint 14 follow this tutorial http://community.linuxmint.com/tutorial/view/1148 You can also wait for Mint 15 Olivia stable release (Mate edition) for better compiz supports. ,Enjoy
