[SOLVED] Panel Location/New Panel

Post by rgand »

I'm getting used to Cinnamon. I definitely like it. Now I'm getting into refinements.

I went to add a new panel to see what it did. I get a message on the screen that says to choose a panel location. I can click all over the main panel or the screen and nothing happens.

Also, I wanted to move the existing panel to the side of the screen just to find out how to do it. Can't figure that out either.

Is there a tutorial on panels?

Thanks, RG

When you click on 'Add Panel', there should be a transparent bar at the top and/or bottom of the screen. Click on that to add the new panel there.

As for moving the panel to the side, that feature is not implemented yet in Cinnamon. However, someone is working on that. You can follow the development on github: https://github.com/linuxmint/Cinnamon/pull/4996. If you just need the launching/window list functionality on the side, then a dock like Docky, Plank or Cairo-Dock would probably do.

I never saw the transparent bar(s). Once I looked, there it was. I use two monitors. Evidently I can have a panel at the top or bottom of each monitor. I don't have any use for more panel space yet, but I can see those being useful in the future. I can see different panels for specific purposes.

Interesting that the side panels are in development. That could come in handy.

Thanks for both the link and the information.
