Is it possible to run a cinnamon desktop via ssh? Well, it's possible ... but I'm having problems.
First I log into the remote with ssh -X other.localhost. This is fine and logs me into a terminal.
Now, I try: cinnamon-session and it does launch. But, it's overlaying my current window. Not quite what I want.
So, next (after going to a terminal and killing my current session on the local machine), I tried cinnamon-session :2 but that doesn't seem to make a difference.
What's the magic word?

That's what it should do. If you want the whole desktop in a window, connect with vnc instead of ssh.
I'm not sure if Cinnamon's 3D renderer will barf at that - XFCE might be a little more sane...

I'll give xfce a go.
VNC? I'll have to read up on that ... never used it.
Thanks for the ideas.
