[SOLVED]HP Printer Installation Failure

Post by Ozo »

I am trying to install an HP Laserjet Pro p1102w wireless printer. I can print with it cabled but can not establish a wireless connection. I had the HP software loaded and followed the instructions which got me to step 4 but it would not "Finish" with a wireless connection.

try installing hplip-gui from the repository. In a terminal type

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get install hplip-gui
you can lauch it in the menu it's call hp tool box.
see if it finds your printer on the network. If not you may have to enter the printers IP address manually to find it.

You can also us the cups web installation to do the job. at http://localhost:631

Thanks. The Toolbox is loaded. I use it to perform the wireless connection with usb attached but still can not get past step 4. I type the ip address 0.0.0.0 in the browser but "ERR connection refused".

the IP address will be something like 192.168.1.x where x is the number given the machine by the network.

it would not be 0.0.0.0 .

you may have to disconnect the usb cable for it to work also.
can you go to a terminal and type the following and post the output here:

Code: Select all

lpstat -p

I tried 192.168.223.1 but it would not connect. Here is the terminal result from the entry lpstat -p]

I followed this advise from HP but still have the same result;

Hello @katkandy , and welcome to the HP Forums, I hope you enjoy your experience!

I see you are experiencing connectivity issues. I would like to help!

I would recommend powering down your computer, disconnect the power cord from the printer and the power outlet, and remove the power from your router for 60 seconds.

After 60 seconds, plug the router back in. Once the router has begun broadcasting, plug the printer back in. Ensure you plug the printer directly to a wall outlet. Make sure to bypass any sort of surge protector or power bar.

After the printer is on, re-run the wireless setup.

your hp P-1102w is a difficult one to get going. It has to do with the way it access the wireless net.
here is a page that may be of help. https://answers.launchpad.net/hplip/+question/254909

Maybe someone who has gotten that model going will also come in to help.

I am getting discouraged with this process. Do you know of a printer which does not have such a hard time of enabling the wireless connection? I want an inexpensive Laser monochrome wireless printer for around a hundred bucks like this one. I just got this one and can return it for no charge. I hate to do that but if I can find one which works I will. This is quiet and fast as well as cheap but I wanted a wireless printer not just a cabled unit.

I have no experience with lazer printers. but HP has the best support. Just that model you have seems to be difficult. But maybe someone with experience with Lazer printers will come in and offer better advice.

Sorry I can not be of more help to you.

I am marking this solved as I just ordered a new HP LaserJet Pro MFP 125nw wireless printer. It was comparably priced at just $12 more ($115 at Amazon). $100 at Staples + tax. Thanks for helping.
