Yesterday I have upgraded from Mint Cinnamon 17.2 to 17.3 and at reboot Cinnamon didn't run.
I can boot the desktop manager if I run cinnamon-settings-manager manually but the styles, fonts, icons pack are at default settings and I can not change them.
I have a Intel GPU (Mobile 4 Series Chipset Integrated Graphics Controller) that has never given problems with Cinnamon.
Someone may come to my assistance?

Re: cinnamon-settings-daemon doesn't boot after upgrade 17.3
Do you say, that the daemon does not appear in the list of processes? You mention it in the title, but not in the body of your post.
Open a terminal and enter those commands (one after the other):
Can you reproduce the problem in a fresh new user account?
Open a terminal and enter those commands (one after the other):
Code: Select all
ll ~/.config/dconf
ll ~/.cinnamon
Re: cinnamon-settings-daemon doesn't boot after upgrade 17.3
I fixed my issue deleting the file ~/.local/share/applications/cinnamon-settings-daemon.desktop
It seems all is coming back to normality. Only a thing, if i go in Account details into the Settings, the settings windows locks but i can live without.
Do you have any other suggestions for me?

Re: [SOLVED] cinnamon-settings-daemon issue after upgrade 17
THANK YOU!
I had similar issues with my desktop display after upgrading. I haven't had time to really look into it - I'm not really sure what went wrong, but your solution
I still have a couple more systems to upgrade - hoping it's less hassle.

Re: [SOLVED] cinnamon-settings-daemon issue after upgrade 17
This caused a different issue for me, when upgrading from 17.2 to 17.3, that of a plain black desktop background which couldn't be changed.
I could select a new one but the selection never actually applied & the background remained stubbornly black.
The cause & fix was the same, however.
