root-tail not visible on Cinnamon desktop

Post by GeneBean »

I have a fresh install of Cinnamon 17.2 that is fully patched. I have installed root-tail and run xwininfo to produce the following:

Code: Select all

$ xwininfo

xwininfo: Please select the window about which you
          would like information by clicking the
          mouse in that window.

xwininfo: Window id: 0x1c00007 "Desktop"

  Absolute upper-left X:  0
  Absolute upper-left Y:  0
  Relative upper-left X:  0
  Relative upper-left Y:  0
  Width: 1920
  Height: 1080
  Depth: 32
  Visual: 0x181
  Visual Class: TrueColor
  Border width: 0
  Class: InputOutput
  Colormap: 0x1c00006 (not installed)
  Bit Gravity State: NorthWestGravity
  Window Gravity State: NorthWestGravity
  Backing Store State: NotUseful
  Save Under State: no
  Map State: IsViewable
  Override Redirect State: no
  Corners:  +0+0  -0+0  -0-0  +0-0
  -geometry 1920x1080+0+0
Using that info I run root-tail with the command below but still can't see it.

Code: Select all

$ root-tail -id 0x1c00007 -g 1200x200+10+880 --frame /var/log/syslog,red
Any tips on what setting I need to change? I imagine that somewhere there is one like "allow programs in desktop window" but I can't find it.
