[Solved] Possible to control windows layout by script?

Post by magicloud »

Hi,
I'd like to do something like giving browser a certain default size, or placing pidgin message window at a certain position by default. I see a layout.js used by Cinnamon, but not sure if there is any user way (instead of modifying system file). Any idea how I can archive that? Thanks.

You can do that with devilspie2. You can install that from Software Manager. Examples and what you can do with the scripting is here http://www.gusnan.se/devilspie2/manual.php

might be easier to install devilspie and gdevilspie from the repositories, gdevilspie gives you a gui for it so you wont have to mess with text files or code at all

be careful with gdevilspie, some funny screenshots when the scripts go bad. i still use gdevilspie.
