Problem with Dual Monitor refresh rate/fps

Post by xsxavier »

I have a dual monitor setup, one is capped at 60hz and the other at 144hz.

When I enable both of them, either clone or extend, the fps of the window manager seems to be capped at 60fps. Only the mouse cursor appears to be running at 144fps/hz, it is most evident when dragging windows, this appears very choppy.

When I disable the 60hz monitor, everything is fine, and the desktop runs at 144hz/fps.

I had the same issue with KDE but there was a workaround by adding Maxfps=144 in kwinrc.

Is there any similar solution for muffin/cinnamon? I can't find any solution to this and googling this issue hasnt been very fruitful.

Thanks

I can confirm this issue.

I have found that you can work around this by disabling the monitor(s) with refresh rates lower than 144hz (or whatever your target is).

I also had problems disabling one of my display-port monitors, as it would just come back on after turning it off.

I was able to fully disable the monitor after using

Code: Select all

xrandr --output MONITOR_NAME --off

I'm looking to see if I can find anything to force everything to run at 144 FPS. Fingers crossed.

Code: Select all
