Hi,
I installed Linux Mint Cinnamon on my laptop about 1 month ago and although my laptop is a hybrid (Intel and Nvidia graphics cards) I didn't install Nvidia drivers. But there was one thing that was bothering me and that was the fact that I couldn't change my screen brightness using the Function keys. So I googled it today and the change I made was this http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.p ... 51#p591151 even though I had no Nvidia drivers.
Naturally, after I rebooted my computer I had a "Failed to start X server" error and I fixed it by following this tutorial https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RBisGKK5mkA.
I thought I had fixed my mistake but now everytime I login Cinnamon crashes and I get this window http://s1089.removed/user/ADDMan1010/me ... 6.png.html. I wanted to know if you guys know any way to fix my problem.
Thanks

Re: Cinnamon crash after login
good morning, I also have a crashing cinnamon on my laptop with the same window popping up.
I installed LMDE 2 with cinnamon yesterday and also did an apt-get update && apt-get upgrade.
How do we find out what's causing the problem? Maybe we have the same problem here, although I have an intel integrated graphics card?
(I'd open a new thread if we could make sure that we're not having the same problem here, just the same symptoms)
Edit: If that's any hint as to what's going wrong... the background of my login screen also doesn't appear. It's just blank.
And when I restart cinnamon with CTRL-ALT-BACKSPACE, I at least get a rudimentary menu where I can start up chrome to post to the forum Can't find a terminal in the menus though... have to use the tty's

Re: Cinnamon crash after login
alright, I'm back in a working cinnamon session...
I reinstalled cinnamon:
apt-get purge cinnamon
apt-get install cinnamon
Then rebooted. Still had no login screen background so I thought, the normal session wouldn't work and didn't even try...
I clicked on the little "Ci" on the top right corner of the login box and chose "C2" with software rendering.
Logged in and now I'm back to my desktop.
I can't afford to try to break cinnamon again in order to find out what's going wrong because I need to work now, but I'd be happy to provide logs if you tell me which ones you need.
Edit: I just logged out and restarted a new Ci session because the software rendered one was "laggy". It also worked. Seems like the reinstall fixed it for me (except the background of the login page).

Re: Cinnamon crash after login
Thanks for the help but I finally solved it. I think the problem was that the X Server wouldn't start so cinnamon would crash and freeze after a while every time. If anyone gets this same problem here's the link I followed: http://askubuntu.com/questions/530574/h ... figuration
Thanks for the help
