Desktop freezing

Whenever software/updating is installing my desktop freezes and its bothering me. Does anyone know how to fix this issue??
My dad just bought me a new computer and installed linux mint so basically im a complete noob. I've been doing some thing but if there's anything someone would like to recommend I do it will be highly appreciated

The parts my computer is made of are:-
pentium 3.4ghz processor with 4g of ram and Nvidia G-force 730 + gt graphics card.
My understanding is that my computer runs very well considering i can play the talos principle on high quality haha
Other than that everything else seems to be working very well!
