Which window manager should I use with Cinnamon

Post by marmistrz »

I have a couple of them installed, noticed it when fsgamer's dependency openbox changed the alternative.

Code: Select all

  1 /usr/bin/marco 30 manual mode
  2 /usr/bin/metacity 60 manual mode
  3 /usr/bin/muffin 60 manual mode
  4 /usr/bin/openbox 90 manual mode
Which of them should I best use? Why?

Muffin. It's the default WM for Cinnamon. :)

Wondering: is there any reason why Cinnamon chose muffin?

Muffin was forked from Mutter by the Mint team.

And why did the Cinnamon team decide to use Mutter/Muffin and not Compiz, Openbox, Marco?

Because it apparently suited them better to do so. For more details, including the sordid technical reasons, please contact the Cinnamon dev team.
