My context remains made of 4 workspaces (1 dedicated to a cpu-intensive CLI application, 1 to Thunderbird, 1 to Chrome and/or Virtualbox, and the last one to 6-8 Nemo windows and 2-3 CLI terminals) - enough RAM, so no special issue here, swap space rarely used - and the laptop remains on round the clock. inxi -Fxz to follow in a few lines.
For the first day of usage, everything appears normal - Nemo uses less than 100 MB of RAM, new windows open snappily. However, after the first day or so, Nemo becomes increasingly unresponsive:
- new windows open with increasing lags, from seconds to minutes. After 2 days of usage, I'm finding somehow common to have to wait at least 1 full minute for a new window to appear (both for windows opened as children of former windows and for windows opened from the panel);
- Nemo's memory usage increases, above 600 MB as of now, though cpu usage remains pretty low (10% of one out of 4 cores);
- windows become sluggish and their content is not refreshed any more (neither spontaneously, nor via F5);
- other running applications in the meanwhile show limited slowdowns;
- sluggish windows and slow refreshes appear to worsen in correlation with data transfers (downloads), either from VirtualBox towards a shared folder, or via Chrome.
