default display manager

Post by bodensee »

HI guys,

hey I set up Cinnamon and it runs pretty well. However, I installed "slim" and "xfce4" additionally and did some switches by hand.
Now the problem is, cinnamon desktop doesn't boot up on start.
I have to start it with "startx" command.

Code: Select all

/etc/init.d/mdm

gives me: "mdm is not the default display manager" and it won't start.

HOW DO I CHOOSE MY DEFAULT DM?
there is

Code: Select all

/etc/X11/default-display-manager
and it won't help setting /usr/sbin/mdm ...

AND BTW: HOW DO I RUN XFCE4 now?

What?

thx,
boris

HOW DO I CHOOSE MY DEFAULT DM?

It should ask you when you install a new one, e.g. slim.

"mdm is not the default display manager" and it won't start.

"slim" is now the display manager.

HOW DO I RUN XFCE4 now?

Logout and login again; it'll let you choose which one (click the icons...), also set the default.

I suggest you uninstall slim and reinstall mdm; then after Cin is normally starting up, go onto Xfce (log out/in).

Your data and OS are backed up....right?
