Post by africanlion »

I have just installed Mint 17.1 and nothing shows in bottom panel. I cant see network icon, terminal, etc

Even more troubling when I click Menu the box is grey and blank. I have restarted the pc without luck.

Right click the panel, in the men click on trouble shooting (wording may differ) and choose to reset all settings to default.

Did you have the problem in the live system?

There is more info about your computer needed.

Start the live system in compatibility mode, hopefully the things get visible with that.
In the live system open a terminal and enter:

Code: Select all

inxi -Fxz
Note the correct writing in capital and not-capital letters.
The command gives some output. Copy it and paste it in the next post. You can this with the live system.

It ran a lot of code or tests then went onto blank screen

"Cannot display thisvideo mode"

It happens so fast I dont get a chance to enter that code. Remember I cant see terminal or anything on the desktop

What can you tell bout the hardware?

My guess: your hardware is probably not able to work with Cinnamon. Try the MATE oder the XFCE edition of LM 17.1 instead.

I that happens several times per day.
It helps me a workaround:
1)alt + f2
2)r

If someone knows a solution, I would be very grateful

inxi -Fxz
