Cinnamon loads wrong desktop icons on boot

Post by bmjh »

Currently running:
Hi mint ppl, I'm currently running the following:
Mint 17 Qiana 64 bit, kernel 3.13.0-24-generic
gpu: AMD Radeon HD 7870, fglrx drivers (Omege 14.12)

See the thumbnail for what I get when I first boot into desktop:
mint_desktop_wrongicons.png
They remind of gnome or KDE, but I don't recognise them.

If I do:
$ sudo service mdm restart
The icons load correctly.

I haven't been able to find a similar issue on mint, ubuntu or arch forums. Nothing similar in github repo issues either.

I have a similar issue (but no solution). Maybe this information is helpful to understand the error. When I boot into Linux Mint 17 Cinnamon 64 Bit 3.13.0-36-generic the desktop symbols are displayed as configured (Mint-X in my case). But when I boot into Linux Mint 17 Cinnamon 64 Bit 3.13.0-55-generic, then the default gnome desktop symbols are displayed.

So I hope the next kernel version will repair this issue...

The same thing happens to me since a couple of days ago. The difference is that

sudo service mdm restrart

does not help. I just get thrown out into a console session and I have to do 'startx' or 'sudo mdm' to get back my desktop. And then I only get back the wrong icons.
